Southeast
Covid-19 Updates

Welcome to Southeast Life Sciences weekly Southeast Covid-19 Updates page. We have been tracking the Covid epidemic in the southeast since March and will continue to track until things “calm down.” In the newsletters linked below, we have charts on casess, deaths, testing, hospitalizations, and more for your information. To the right, there are links to sources and other useful information. If you have any questions or suggestions, pleast contact Jason Rupp at jrupp@southeastlifesciences.org.

August 5 Covid-19 Update

August 5, 2020
Most of the trends from two weeks ago continue, with a couple of notable exceptions. Cases in Florida and Louisiana appear to be leveling off, with some decline over the last week or so in both states. With universities (potentially) opening in the next month, that trend will be tested. If cases continue to level and/or drop, this is tremendous news for this Fall.

July 22 Covid-19 Update

July 22, 2020

There is a lot of data to digest this week. Unfortunately, the big story is hospitalizations that are rising dramatically in some states. Not all though – Kentucky is doing very well and Virginia is holding steady despite increased cases for both states.

July 7 Covid-19 Update

July 7, 2020

I switched things up again this week. Instead of tracking testing & cases, I’ve compared New Tests & Positive Tests, and New Cases & New Hospitalizations. These fit better together and tell an interesting story.

June 30 Covid-19 Update

June 30, 2020

The spike continues for most of the southeast, with Florida looking really bad. In the last week, Florida’s total cases grew by 45%, from 97,000 to 141,000. The numbers there are so high, it skews all the other states, so I had to take them out of the linear growth chart for the region. The only exception in the spikes is Virginia, which has reduced new infections significantly since their spike peaked a month ago. Below are charts for Florida and Virginia, with some commentary.

June 24 Covid-19 Update

June 24, 2020

This week, I’ve added information on new hospitalizations for all the states. As a trade off, I did not have time to pull news articles and information. I’ll get back to that next week!

June 7 Covid-19 Update

June 9, 2020

In early June, we start to see the signficant increase in overall cases as states start to open back up.

June 2 Covid-19 Update

June 2, 2020

Some changes this week in the 7-day moving average with some states seeing growth with opening of the economy – and significantly more testing.

May 27 Covid-19 Update

June 2, 2020

With a few exceptions, this week states new cases haven’t increased much since last week.
